Krispy Kreme

I'm confident that everybody knows what Krispy Kreme is, right? Doughnuts? =D

Fabfind (@FabfindToronto) recently had a voucher for 1/2 dozen free Original Glazed Doughnuts from Krispy Kreme. Since I'm a queen of deals, I took full advantage of it. It also helps that I live in Mississauga (the voucher is only valid at the Mississauga location on Mavis and the downtown location on Harbord). Anyway, I'm always down for free stuff, especially food.

To be honest, I think I've only had Krispy Kreme doughnuts a couple of times before this time. There was so much hype about it when it first came to Canada from the U.S., and that was probably when I had those couple of doughnuts. Not sure what happened to Krispy Kreme after that but the hype quickly faded; I'm thinking it's probably because everyone is so health-conscious these days.

I have never been inside this Krispy Kreme before. It was a big store with very bright lights; very clean too. Once you walk in, you can see a conveyor belt full of doughnuts.

When I left, the doughnuts were replaced by these Krispy Kreme "doughnut holes".

Sugar high anyone?

Boxes for Krispy Kreme doughnut holes. Which is better? Tim Hortons' Timbits or Krispy Kreme doughnut holes?

My doughnuts came in this box instead, not as cute.

Ahhhhh 6 Krispy Kreme Original Glazed Doughnuts, fresh off the conveyor belt. They look so round and perfect....and shiny.

I took a bite and it was just like how I remember it to be, so light. It was so soft that I was eating it I honestly though I could eat 2 or 3 more afterwards, but once I was done that one, I knew I couldn't have anymore; I find that Krispy Kreme doughnuts do that - they slowly creep up on you and fills you up; so deceiving. The doughnut very good but I still find Krispy Kreme doughnuts are still too sweet for my liking - it's definitely not something you should eat everyday. God, no.

I brought the rest of the doughnuts home. I found out the next day that my dad had one doughnut the night when I brought it home (I left the box on the kitchen table) and that he next day, both my mom and my dad had two for breakfast. It was only then that my parents told me that although they haven't had Krispy Kreme doughnuts for years, they have always been fans of Krispy Kreme doughnuts. Interesting. I did not know that..

I think it was a great idea for Krispy Kreme to team up with Fabfind. I think a lot of people, like me, have forgotten about Krispy Kreme; having this promotion is a smart move since it reminds people about the Krispy Kreme brand.

If you haven't redeemed your Krispy Kreme doughnuts yet, do so soon! Voucher expires March 15, 2011!

Aww... I went to the downtown location and it was tiny and their donuts are made from the Missau. branch... so none of the "production line" to look at...therefore no post for me =(

yeah, i pretty much forgotten about it especially after the Scarbough Town Center one closed but it's really good after all these years.... especially wehn Tim Horton's one getting worst n worst

I remember when KK opened in Mississauga. My buddies and I came in from Brampton and stood in blistering cold weather for HOURS (the line up cut through the parking lot) to get at them. They had heating lamps going so people wouldn't freeze while waiting. It was the first and only time I've ever eaten KK. I found it far too sweet for my liking.

Mike doesn't let me get the Krispy Kreme donuts but when I do bring them home, he's pretty quick to eat them.

I love the donuts that are covered in sugar. I always get more of them and a couple of the chocolate iced.

One other thing...back before they came to Canada, I was working at the ad agency who took on KK as a client. They shipped over 12 dozen donuts through Fedex but they got stuck in Buffalo. Some of the art directors drove to Buffalo to pick them up. It was delicious trying them for the first time ever.

@FabFindGeoff - Thank YOU for the awesome voucher!

@kiki - hehe thanks! =) Oh bummer about the downtown location. Yeah, this Mississauga store is quite nice. A lot of people sit at the booths to enjoy their doughnuts.

@Anonymous - Awww you should have gotten the voucher anyway since you are munching on that chocolate bar =P Thanks for your compliment~

@Anonymous - Why? What happened??? - Yes, I remember how crazy the lineups were when Krispy Kreme just opened. Like you and me, I think most people do share our point of view in that their doughnuts are way too sweet.

@Leesh - You rebel, you =) Sweet tooth there, huh? I can't imagine eating a Krispy Kreme doughnut with sugar icing or chocolate on top since I find their original sweet enough already! Oh wow, I can imagine how your first experience with Krispy Kreme was like, especially when it wasn't even available in Canada yet! Must have been orgasmic LOL!

I've only tasted Krispy Kreme once a few years back. It was okay. Nothing to rave about. I mean I enjoy all sweets but I found that it was a bit too plain for my taste. I like decadent, creamy, chocolatey, gooey, syrupy stuff. If I had to choose, I'd probably get the dark chocolate creme.

@Joanne - I hear ya, I definitely prefer the warm, chocolatelty, gooey stuff for dessert but then I don't think Krispy Kreme doughnuts are meant to be desserts, even though they are for me and other ppl who think they are too sweet =)
